Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Here is the coil pot that I’m working on in my ceramics class right now. It stands about 14.5” tall and is made of about 30 coils. I have about 20 hours into this right now and it’s due the 23rd. I don’t know how I will get it done in time but I am really going to try my best. The design on the outside is taken from a painting that I did a few semesters ago. I was thinking it would be somewhat easy, but it’s proving to be much more challenging than I thought. I am really pleased so far with how William the Hippo has come out! I am also showing a photo of the replica of William so that you guys can see where I got my idea from. William is a piece of Egyptian faience (dated around 1891-1885 B.C.)
If you guys are interested, I’ll post more process photos as I am working on this pot and also post the final piece when I am done.
I never really thought I would enjoy working with clay but I really am enjoying this project. I didn’t care so much for building the coil pot, but I really love carving into it and adding to it to achieve my design. It’s pretty amazing! I can’t wait to fire and glaze this :o)
